Spynlab

FAQ

Is this a copy of another dotted ball?

No. Dotted balls for measuring spin have been around for years, and we're not the first to make one. But we designed ours ourselves: our own pattern (24 dots in two sizes, 10 and 7 mm), our own stencil and our own app. How it came about is above, with dates.

Why are the dots so big?

So that an ordinary iPhone camera sees them from where it stands beside the table. We tried smaller dots in our first two versions, and in video of real play they disappeared.

Which app do the balls work with?

Which app do the balls work with? Spynlab for iPhone. The app reads only this pattern: with ordinary balls it shows nothing. The app is in beta now; the link is below.

iPhone beta. Free, through Apple's TestFlight. Places are very limited: only as many as the balls we paint by hand. You need an iPhone with iOS 18.6 or later and Spynlab balls.
