A white ball in flight tells you nothing. Heavy topspin, a "dead" serve, side rotation that left the racket at the wrong angle — from behind the table it all looks the same.
This ball shows you. Twenty-four matte-black dots, ten large and fourteen small, arranged so that no two positions of the ball look the same. Film the serve in slow motion — and the pattern will reveal the rotation: which way the axis points, how fast the ball is spinning, how much the racket angle actually changed it.
The placement of the dots is not drawn by eye, but calculated. From any direction in the frame there are at least five dots — on average eight — so there is no angle at which the pattern disappears. And the gaps between the dots are wide enough, 11.6° of arc at the narrowest point, so that at speed they don't blur into a solid smudge.
Under the marking — an ordinary 40+ ball: the same size, the same bounce, the same feel on the racket as the rest of your collection.
Key points:
Rotation is visible — a pattern of 24 dots makes rotation readable in slow-motion video
No "blind" angles — from any direction you can see at least 5 dots, on average 8
Doesn't blur at speed — minimum gap of 11.6° prevents dots from blurring together
Every position is unique — the pattern is intentionally asymmetrical, no two ball positions look alike
Plays like normal — standard 40 mm ‹40+ plastic› ball, bounce is unchanged
Who it's for: try the pattern before buying a set · replace a lost ball · check one serve on one camera.
